Preparing for a Relaxed In-Home Newborn Session
Your newborn session should feel manageable, even when life with a new baby is unpredictable. A little planning helps, but you don’t need a perfectly tidy home or a baby who sleeps on cue.
Follow your baby’s usual rhythm
We’ll make time for feeding, changing and cuddles during the session. Follow your baby’s usual feeding cues and your healthcare team’s advice. There is no need to delay a feed or keep your baby awake for photographs. Awake moments can be lovely too.
Choose the style you feel comfortable with
For studio-style portraits, we’ll plan a clear space for the backdrop, lighting and selected props. If you prefer a natural-light lifestyle session without studio lighting, we’ll look for soft window light in a room where your family feels comfortable. We’ll discuss the space before your appointment.
Keep clothing simple
A sleeper that opens at the front can make changing easier. For parent and sibling photographs, comfortable clothing in coordinating neutral tones keeps the attention on your family. You don’t need identical outfits.
Tell me about meaningful details
A special blanket or family keepsake can help make the photographs feel personal. Let me know in advance so we can discuss whether and how to include it. Wraps and props for your chosen studio-style setups are provided.
Leave room for flexibility
Your baby’s comfort comes first. We’ll pause when needed and adjust the session as we go. If your baby or anyone in the family is unwell, contact me so we can discuss rescheduling. Questions about jaundice, feeding, allergies or other health concerns should go to your baby’s healthcare professional, rather than being managed around a photography appointment.
