Markham, ON Photographer/ Planning a Stress-Free Newborn Photo

Preparing for a newborn photo session can be overwhelming, especially for new parents.

To ensure a smooth and stress-free experience, follow these essential tips.

1. **Keeping Baby Awake and Well-Fed:**

- The key to a successful session is to keep your baby awake for at least 90 minutes before we begin. This ensures they go into a deep, sound sleep during the session, allowing for a variety of shots and props.

- Feeding your baby after I arrive helps keep them content and sleepy throughout the session.

2. **Optimal Shooting Location:**

- Heat up the shooting location in advance. Newborns prefer a toasty environment, mimicking the warmth of the womb. Ideal room temperature is 28°C.

- Choose a space with minimal light and ample room for my lighting setup, roughly the size of a queen-king size bed.

3. **Recommended Attire for Baby:**

- Dress your baby in sleepers with zippers or buttons at the front. This makes it easy to change outfits without disturbing their peaceful slumber.

4. **Understanding Unpredictability:**

- Recognize that babies are unpredictable, especially when establishing routines. Do your best to follow the instructions, but don't stress if things don't go exactly as planned.

5. **Considerations for Special Cases:**

- Jaundice: If your baby has jaundice, it's advisable to schedule the session around the 2-week mark, once the condition has improved.

- Gas Issues: For breastfeeding moms, avoid consuming dairy, caffeine, soy, fish, peanuts, chocolate, wheat, beef, and nuts 72 hours before the session if your baby experiences gas issues.

- Caffeine Sensitivity: If breastfeeding, abstain from caffeine 72 hours prior to the session, as it can make babies tense, jumpy, and easily awakened during posing.

By following these practical tips, you can make your newborn photo session a delightful and stress-free experience. Remember, flexibility is key, and the goal is to capture those precious moments with your newest family member.
